Cedar Clearing
in Central Texas.

We clear selectively. The scrub cedar comes out, while your oaks, other big trees and any large cedar worth keeping stay standing and get limbed up, leaving a clean, park-like landscape. Cleared cedar is piled and burned, not left as a mulch mat.

Good for

Park-like homesites, pastures, views, wildlife openings.

Equipment

Typical machines for this work: our CAT 953 track loader, CAT 236 skid steer and CAT 320CL excavator, run by an experienced crew with 30+ years in Central Texas land sculpting and ownership closely involved in every job.

Why we pile and burn, not mulch

Mulching cedar leaves a thick mat of chips on the ground that smothers the soil and keeps native grasses from growing back. We pile and burn cleared cedar instead. It's the proper way to clear cedar: clear it, burn it, then reseed with native grasses or winter rye so grass comes back.

Where we work

All of Central Texas, including Hays County, Travis County, Blanco County, Comal County, Burnet County, Williamson County, and towns such as Austin, Dripping Springs, Driftwood, Wimberley, Buda, Kyle, San Marcos, Johnson City, Blanco, Fredericksburg, Marble Falls, Bastrop.

Questions

Do you mulch cedar?

No. We pile and burn cleared cedar. Mulch leaves a mat on the ground that keeps native grasses from growing back.

Can you save certain trees?

Yes, and it's one of the things we do best. We clear selectively, leaving the oaks, other large trees and any big cedar worth keeping, then limb them up so the property opens into a clean, park-like landscape. Walk the land with us and point out your favorites.

What should I do after clearing?

Reseeding with native grasses or winter rye helps cover cleared ground and burn pile spots, and some follow-up shredding keeps regrowth down. We can handle both.
